Grade 2 commercially pure titanium is the corrosion-resistant workhorse for chemical and marine fittings, heat exchangers, and medical implants — 240 MPa yield, fully weldable, and roughly 60% the strength-to-weight ratio of Grade 5. Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) alpha-beta alloy is the structural titanium standard at 830 MPa yield, used for aerospace fasteners, racing components, and orthopedic implants. Titanium is biocompatible but galvanically active — never assemble titanium parts dry against aluminum or zinc without insulating sleeves, or aggressive crevice corrosion will start within months in damp environments.

Standard hot-rolled flat bar holds about ±1.5% on cross-section per ASTM A6 — fine for weldments but loose for machine-fit features, so over-size for finishing operations.
