Grade 2 commercially pure titanium is the corrosion-resistant workhorse for chemical and marine fittings, heat exchangers, and medical implants — 240 MPa yield, fully weldable, and roughly 60% the strength-to-weight ratio of Grade 5. Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) alpha-beta alloy is the structural titanium standard at 830 MPa yield, used for aerospace fasteners, racing components, and orthopedic implants. Titanium is biocompatible but galvanically active — never assemble titanium parts dry against aluminum or zinc without insulating sleeves, or aggressive crevice corrosion will start within months in damp environments.
Plate stock is the foundation for machine bases, structural gussets, weldments, waterjet and laser blanks, fixture base plates, and adapter brackets. Cold-rolled plate offers a clean descaled surface acceptable for paint or anodize directly; hot-rolled plate carries mill scale that must be ground or sandblasted off before coatings. Standard thicknesses jump in coarse steps (3, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 mm; 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 inch) so design around the available stock rather than specifying an odd thickness that triggers cut-down charges and longer lead times.
