Sourcing and Use Notes

C110 ETP (electrolytic tough pitch) copper is the standard electrical conductor stock — minimum 99.9% Cu with excellent conductivity but poor machinability because of its gummy chip. C145 tellurium copper alloys in a small amount of tellurium to break chips cleanly, sacrificing about 5% conductivity for production-line machinability. Copper oxidizes quickly in shop air; bare stock will develop a brown-to-green patina within weeks, so order soft-temper coiled sheet or clean and protect finished parts within days. Copper accepts silver brazing readily and is ductile enough for tight bend radii without annealing.

Plate stock is the foundation for machine bases, structural gussets, weldments, waterjet and laser blanks, fixture base plates, and adapter brackets. Cold-rolled plate offers a clean descaled surface acceptable for paint or anodize directly; hot-rolled plate carries mill scale that must be ground or sandblasted off before coatings. Standard thicknesses jump in coarse steps (3, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 mm; 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 inch) so design around the available stock rather than specifying an odd thickness that triggers cut-down charges and longer lead times.
